Ghana ECTN/SPN Certificate
From 1st November 2023 onwards, all consignments to Ghana (including transit cargoes) must obtain the ECTN/SPN (Electronic Cargo Tracking Number / Smart port Note) from the port of loading. Cargoes that do not have an ECTN will be subject to significant penalties.

Therefore, it is important to check with your Ghanaian importer/customer to see if this certificate is necessary for your consignment. Please note that ECTN certification fees are non-reimbursable once started. We do not accept any liability for any issues that may arise after the certificate has been pre-validated.

An ECTN (Electronic Cargo Tracking Note Certificates) is an official document that allows customs authorities to track, control, and manage cargo. In some African countries, ECTNs are mandatory documentation for monitoring and validating incoming shipments. An ECTN is a document that provides details about a cargo, such as the cargo content, the cargo origin, and the destination. The ECTN must be obtained by the exporter or the freight forwarder. What is the Procedure?
- Under this law, all cargoes imported from overseas and shipped for commercial, commercial, in certain cases diplomatic and personal reasons must be accompanied by an loading certificate also known as a CTN (Cargo Tracking Note).
- The shipper or the freight forwarder is responsible for acquiring the CTN waiver certificate from the authorized representative.

Regulation
- Ghana Customs requires CTN certificates for all cargo coming into the country.
The CTN certification must be confirmed no later than five days prior to the vessel’s arrival.
If the shipment arrives without an CTN certificate or with incorrect CTN information, it will be charged twice the cost of the certificate plus the regulatory charge set by the Ghana National Port Officials.
