Nigeria CTN Certificate

The ECTN requirement is currently not compulsory for Nigeria. The ENS used to be the outdated certificate for shipments to Nigeria. Nevertheless, there are expectations that by the end of 2019, through collaboration between the Nigerian government and PORT council regulations, the CTN will be reinstated as a mandatory document once more.

Nigeria, situated in West Africa, shares borders with Chad and Cameroon to the northeast, Niger to the north, Benin to the west, and Togo and Ghana to the east. Abuja serves as both the capital and largest city of the country. English is the official language, and the population stands at approximately 200 million. Nigeria boasts a rich and varied culture, shaped by the traditions of indigenous tribes, European colonizers, and the African diaspora.

The requirement for ECTN in Nigeria is currently not compulsory. ENS, which used to be the accepted shipment certificate for Nigeria, is now considered outdated. Nevertheless, there are expectations that through the collaborative efforts of the Nigerian government and PORT council regulations, CTN will soon be reinstated as a mandatory document for shipments to Nigeria.

The following documents are necessary to obtain a BSC certificate:
  • Bill of Lading
  • Commercial Invoice
  • Freight Invoice

All documents should be legibly scanned and submitted via email.

To begin the certification process, please send a PDF copy of the documents via email to info@reccaridelogistics.com You do not need to send a hard copy of the documents for the issuance of the BSC certificates Please do not send the final documents, as there will be no further changes later in the process There will be a penalty fee for the changes after the certificates are validated

What is ICTN?

The ICTN, also referred to as CTN and BSC, is a compulsory loading document for all shipments destined for Nigeria. This regulation was established by the Nigerian Shippers Council in 2019.

Failure to provide the ICTN document may result in significant repercussions and a substantial financial penalty. It is crucial to ensure that the necessary documentation is readily available to avoid any negative outcomes.

What is the Procedure?

Under this law, all cargoes imported from overseas and shipped for commercial, commercial, in certain cases diplomatic and personal reasons must be accompanied by an ICTN – International Cargo Tracking Note.

The shipper or the freight forwarder is responsible for acquiring the ICTN waiver certificate from the authorized representative.

Nigeria ICTN regulations

  • All shipments destined for Nigeria are required to be accompanied by an Import Clearance and Transport Notification (ICTN) certificate in accordance with the regulations set by Nigeria Customs.
  • The ICTN certificate needs to be verified no later than five days prior to the vessel’s arrival.
  • Shipments that do not have an ICTN or contain incorrect information on the ICTN will incur a charge that is double the cost of the certificate, in addition to the regulation charge set by the Nigerian National Port Officials.
